EGR Extract in Belarus

An official extract from the Unified State Register – выписка из ЕГР – is the primary document confirming the legal existence and current status of a company or individual entrepreneur registered in Belarus. It is issued by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and is the authoritative source of information about a Belarusian legal entity.

Foreign companies and individuals need EGR extracts for a wide range of purposes – verifying a Belarusian counterparty before a transaction, registering a subsidiary abroad, opening a bank account for a Belarusian company, notarial procedures, legal proceedings, and compliance and KYC requirements. The extract is in Russian – for use abroad it typically requires apostille and a certified translation.

We obtain EGR extracts on behalf of foreign clients – managing the request, apostille and translation as a single service. You receive the apostilled original and a certified English translation without having to navigate the Russian-language registry yourself.

What the EGR Does Not Show

It is important to understand what an EGR extract does not contain – because this affects how it should be used in counterparty verification.

The EGR extract does not show: pending court cases or judgments against the company; enforcement proceedings or asset attachments; tax arrears or tax authority claims; bankruptcy applications that have been filed but not yet recorded; whether the director has any restrictions on their right to hold office; the ultimate beneficial owners where ownership is held through intermediate companies.

For a complete counterparty check, additional databases need to be checked – the economic court database, the bankruptcy register, the enforcement proceedings register and others. Our counterparty check service covers all of these – in addition to the EGR extract.

What an EGR Extract Contains

An official EGR extract contains the following information about a Belarusian legal entity or individual entrepreneur.

Company identification: Full official name in Russian and Belarusian; short name where applicable; registration number – УНП; date of state registration; legal form – LLC, JSC, unitary enterprise, individual entrepreneur and others.

Registered address: Current legal address – used for official correspondence and court proceedings.

Charter capital: Declared amount and currency; paid-up portion where recorded.

Founders and participants: Names of founders or participants – individuals or legal entities – and their shares in the charter capital. Note – for joint stock companies and certain other forms, shareholder information may not be available in the EGR.

Director and management: Name and position of the current director or head of the organisation – the person authorised to act on behalf of the company without a power of attorney.

Types of activity: The registered activity codes – OKRB – indicating the company’s permitted business activities.

Current status: Whether the company is active, in the process of liquidation, reorganisation or bankruptcy, or has been dissolved.

History of changes: Previous names, addresses, directors and other changes recorded in the register.

Apostille and Translation

For use outside Belarus, an EGR extract typically needs to be apostilled and translated.

Apostille: Belarus has been a party to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents since 1992. EGR extracts issued by the Ministry of Justice can be apostilled by the Ministry of Justice of Belarus. The apostille confirms the authenticity of the document for use in any country that is a party to the Hague Convention – which includes the EU member states, the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel and most other countries.

For use in CIS countries – Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and others – apostille is not required under the 1993 Minsk Convention. Documents issued by Belarusian state authorities are recognised in CIS member states without additional legalisation.

Certified translation: The EGR extract is in Russian. For use abroad, a certified translation into the required language is needed. We provide certified English translations of EGR extracts – prepared by a qualified translator and confirmed by a notarial certification of the translator’s signature.

We manage the full process – obtaining the extract, arranging the apostille and providing the certified translation – as a single coordinated service.

FAQ

What is the EGR?

The EGR – Единый государственный регистр юридических лиц и индивидуальных предпринимателей – is the Unified State Register of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs maintained by the Ministry of Justice of Belarus. It is the official registry of all companies and individual entrepreneurs registered in Belarus and the authoritative source of information about their legal status.

How long does it take to get an EGR extract?

The Ministry of Justice processes requests within 5-7 working days for legal entities and 5 working days for individuals. Apostilling adds a further 5-7 working days. Translation can typically be completed within 2-3 working days once the apostilled document is received.

Do I need an apostille on an EGR extract for use in Russia or Kazakhstan?

No. Under the 1993 Minsk Convention, documents issued by Belarusian state authorities are recognised in CIS member states – including Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan – without apostille. An apostille is required for use in non-CIS countries.

What if the company I need to check is no longer active?

An EGR extract can be obtained for dissolved companies as well as active ones. The extract will show the company’s registration history, the date of dissolution and the reason. Historic extracts showing the company’s status at a specific date are also available.

Is an EGR extract the same as a certificate of incorporation?

Not exactly. A certificate of incorporation confirms that a company was registered on a specific date. An EGR extract contains more comprehensive information – current status, directors, founders, charter capital and activity history. For most purposes a current EGR extract serves the function of both a certificate of incorporation and a current status certificate.
